protests. more than 50 people have died in clashes between police and demonstrators. the curfew is in police for the next 30 days. president morsi is being called to step down. at least 233 people are dead. more than 100 injured, after a massive fire in southern brazil. >> investigators are working to figure out what sparked one of the deadliest nightclub fires in more than a decade. >> reporter: police are guarding a burned out nightclub in southern brazil, where hundreds of people died. early sunday morning rescue workers scrambled to pull victims out of the burning building. club goers and firefighters worked together to use sledgehammers to tear down a wall to reach hundreds of people trapped inside. witnesses say the kiss nightclub in santa maria filled with smoke and plims, moments after a member of a band lit a flare on

stage. survivors described a chaotic race to reach the only exit. they claimed security guards stopped people because they thought patrons were trying to leave without paying their bills and firefighters say they couldn't get in and party goers couldn't get out, because bodies started to pile up and block the door. ambulances rushed the injured to the hospital. doctors say many of the victims died from smoke inhalation and some were trampled. a bouncer says the club was packed with more than 1000 people. santa maria is a university town and officials say some students were there attending a party. family members broke down as they found out their loved ones had died. but this man says his daughter's name has not been released. his family is still holding out hope. brazil's president cut short a trip to chile to rush home. she says the brazilian people

will stand together during the tragedy. >> the band on stage at the time of the fire says one of its members died as well. they noticed a fire on the ceiling and tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. it didn't work. the images on this video are very real. private first class ted daniels captured video of his experience in afghanistan. the compelling firsthand video captured even the day private daniels was hit by enemy fire. >> help me. i'm hit. i'm hit. i'm hit. i'm hit. >> unbelievable video. fortunately private daniels survived his injuries. his video recently became a youtube sensation and appeared in a music video by ice cube.

daniels said he purchased his camera for about 250 bucks at the army post exchange. the video camera has become so popular with the military the company started making a mount especially designed to attach to combat helmets. the close knit community of gallaudet gathered to say goodbye to a mother and daughter killed in a house fire. 48-year-old laura snyder gardner and her 16-year-old died when their home was quickly consumed by flames. >> reporter: those here today remember the mother and daughter for how they lived, many calling them inspirational. >> you could feel the love in the room at gallaudet university as those here remembered laura snyder gardner and her daughter, 16-year-old mary ann. the love expressed through words. hundreds showed up to celebrate their lives, many wearing their

favorite colors, pink and yellow. >> seeing this pink and yellow is just amazing. i don't think i'll ever be able to look at pink and yellow without looking at these two -- thinking of these two women, both were deaf and part of the gallaudet university community. 48-year-old laura taught there, and her daughter tended the model second try school for the deaf. as family and friends spoke at this memorial service, it became clear both were known for their love of laughter. >> she loved to say that laughter was the best medicine. >> reporter: the evidence in pictures and videos, as well as the personal stories shared by those who knew them best. laura's son told this story about how his mother taught him to do laundry. >> i look all my underwear and socks are pink. i said mom what happened to my upped wear? i said -- to my underwear? they are all pink. i washed them with the red stuff. it is my favorite color now.

>> each speaker said mary ann and laura would want loved ones to move forward and keep laughing. the laughter they inspired in their lives now is helping family and friends cope with their death. >> they will be missed, they will be loved, but they will never be forgotten. we love you mom and sis. >> reporter: laura snyder gardner was from wisconsin and both will be laid to rest there. a scholarship fund has been set up in their honor. to make a don't flags go to giving gallaudet ed u/fund. two robberies have students and police on alert. the first happened outside the shanghai cafe. the victim suffered minor injuries when three suspects punched him in the face and took his wallet and cell phone. they were caught and charged.

up. we are only talking a couple of hundredths of an inch of freezing rain but again the timing for the morning rush out the door and rush to school is the bigger concern. let's show you your day planner on this monday morning. we have these little nuisance events. topper and i were talking about this. what a waste of cold air. >> it keeps messing up schools. two hours late, two hours forel pickup. >> reporter: we have light freezing rains and sleet all that messy nonsense this morning. by midmorning it will be transitioning over. 37 by noon in dc. we may hold on to a little bit of ice north of town and 42 by 5:00 with south southwest winds at 12. certainly we will be warming up today and getting out of the ice. this morning winter weather advisories cover everybody, even down south we have reports of sleet. our weather watch is down in the stafford area this morning with temperatures above freezing at the surface so that won't be causing icing problems but it

is sleeting. you can see how this is moving off to the east. snow across some spots, even flurries reported in leesburg, winchester, a mix kind of, of snow and sleet. south of town, more rain with pockets of sleet. this will be the case over the next few hours. temperatures are going to be critical to determine what happens but look at all these areas, arlington 31, ashburg, 32. we have areas at or below freezing, all at 32 degrees. we just need to get a little bit warmer and we will be out of the woods, so to speak. right now 34, feeling like 27. the dew point is 25. cloudy at national, although national did report light sleet at the top of the hour. temperatures over the next few days, you are going to be all over the place. we have a lot of warmth down south, we have cold to our north. as we head toward tomorrow,

here is cold coming back dot northern rockies. look how the warmth surgeons toward us with mid-50s tuesday. upper 60s here, i want to point out more arctic air coming down. by the latter part of the week, even though we are jumping into the 60s wednesday we will be falling back into the 30s to finish out your work week. here is a look at the big picture across the country. moving southwest to northeast. a big area of worm air, as the moisture runs into the cold, this is where we are seeing the wintry mess. by 9:00, most of it will be north and northeast of dc, we'll get into the afternoon hours, pockets from westminister, northern baltimore county, york perhaps with freezing sleet or rain. we will be looking at a few showers from dc north and then by the drive home, mostly cloudy and a spotty shower to be a much better drive home. the milder air moves in

recommending anyone over 65 go straight to the doctor if you are suffering with blue symptoms and get a flu shot, if you haven't had one. >> feels like every sickness you have ever had in your life and you put it together and that is what you have now. >> reporter: this year's strain of the flu is taking a heavy toll, especially on the elderly. seniors account for 90% of all the flu related deaths. they are warned to be extra careful. changing the ways the little ones are bathed in the hospital could end up being a life saver. a johns hopkins study looked at 4000 children and found those with a daily bath had a 36% lower risk of getting a blood infection. the hospital switched out the standards they were using for one that fights bacteria, much like the products you find on store shelves. >> we think this may happen because this antiseptic reduces
